A MAN has been taken into care after a city centre road was closed yesterday due to a concern for welfare.
Western Esplanade was shut yesterday from just before 11:30am in both directions between Harbour Parade and Pirelli Street.
This was due to concerns for welfare of a man seen at the top of the Marlands Shopping Centre carpark.
The road was reopened in the early hours of the morning and the man has now been taken into care.
A Hampshire police spokesperson said: "The man was detained under the Mental Health Act just after 3am and was taken into the care of the appropriate authority."
Western Esplanade between Harbour Parade and Pirelli Street has been reopened.
