A parish in Salisbury has been identified as a Covid hotspot following a rise in cases.

East Harnham has a rate of new cases three times as high as other areas in the city, according to the latest figures.

In the week to April 9, 13 infections were recorded in the area - 10 more compared to the previous weekly period.

This means that the rate of infection has surpassed 200 per 100,000 and currently stands at 218.

By contrast, the rate for the whole of Wiltshire is 18.2.

As the latest figures refer to the week to April 9, the partial lifting of lockdown restrictions cannot be blamed for the increase.

It is not clear what the rise is linked to.

Other areas in and around Salisbury that have reported rise in cases, albeit small, are:

  • Churchfields (3 cases; +1 on previous week; rolling rate of 44.5)
  • Salisbury Town North & Milford (3 cases; +1 on previous week; rolling rate of 49.1)
  • Bishopsdown (6 cases; +3 on previous week; rolling rate of 89.8)
  • Wilton, Nadder & Ebble (5 cases; +3 on previous week; rolling rate of 48.5)
  • Downton & Morgan's Vale (3 cases; +1 on previous week; rolling rate of 37.4)

The figures by Public Health England are available on the Government coronavirus dashboard.
