PLANS have been unveiled to turn a Southampton house back into a nursery for up to 50 children.

The property at Shaftesbury Avenue, Southampton, was used as a nursery until 2017 and is currently a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO).

If the scheme is given the go-ahead the nursery will be run by the previous occupant, Tiny Stars Nurseries.

The application says: "Southampton City Council receives funding to provide 15 hours a week of free childcare for disadvantaged two-year-olds.

"The site is located within an area with significant numbers of eligible families and has subsequently seen a rise in demand for places at other providers.

"It is also proposed to offer an affordable 'drop-in' creche facility for up to ten children (out of the 50), which would enable parents to leave their children for shorter periods to attend job interviews, medical appointments etc.

"Other Tiny Stars nurseries operate a successful 'pick-up' service for children which would be extended to this proposal.

"No changes will be made to the existing building, save for the re-alignment of the existing

fence with a new gate outside the rear entrance."

The scheme is outlined in a Public Notice published by the city council.
