AN appeal has been lodged after civic chiefs rejected plans for a new house beside existing properties.

New Forest District Council (NFDC) refused an application to build a three-bedroom property at Bartram Road, Eling, with vehicular access on to Rose Road.

The council criticised what it described as the "poor design" of the proposed development.

It added: "It would not be sympathetic to its context, it would not respect or enhance the local character and it would not be visually appealing."

The council said the proposed development would have a negative impact on the street scene. It added that the property would overlook the back gardens of neighbouring homes.

The application was turned down in September last year.

Totton and Eling Town Council had urged NFDC to reject the proposal, which also sparked eight letters of objection from locals.
