A CHILD caught carrying a knife at a popular Southampton park has appeared before court.

A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found to be carrying a kitchen knife at Riverside Park on October 14 last year.

Appearing at Southampton Youth Court, the boy pleaded guilty to carrying a bladed article in a public place.

The boy was referred to Hampshire Youth Offending youth offender panel for a contract of six months in which he must attend meetings.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £22 and court costs of £85.

The kitchen knife was seized by police.
