A NAKED man was spotted walking across the tops of cars in Southampton.

Police received reports of a naked man running through the Shirley ward of the city on Monday afternoon.

He was described as either naked or wearing just his underwear making his way down Archers Road, Shirley High Street and Paynes Rad towards the Millbrook Flyover.

Based on one report, the man thought to be in his 20s, was walking across the tops of cars with no clothes on.

Officers finally found him in Paynes Road at around 12.30pm where they restrained him.

It is believed he had taken the illegal drug LSD.

He was later handed over to paramedics and rushed to hospital.

As previously reported, a post on the Shirley Police Facebook page said: "Towards the end of the morning we saw the effects that LSD can have. "A male in his 20s we suspect had taken this substance, we located on Paynes Road, completely naked, screaming and shouting with injuries to his body from a fall or several falls. We remained with him to monitor his medical condition until Paramedics took over and gave him the care needed. "We wish him well and hope his lesson on illegal drug use are learnt." Officers had been carrying out patrols in the Shirley on Monday morning.
