ONE of the biggest carnivals in the Southampton area has been cancelled for the second yrear running because of the pandemic.

Organisers of the Totton and Eling Carnival - due to have taken place on June 19 - have announced that the event will not take place.

Writing on social media they said: "As you're probably expecting the committee have come to the decision we will not be going ahead.

"We want to continue to keep our community safe and think it's too soon to be organising such a gathering just yet.

"But we will endeavour to come back in 2022.

"We will be looking into organising some smaller events in the meantime, subject to government guidelines, so watch this space."

The carnival is the latest event in the New Forest to fall victim to the pandemic.

Earlier this year it was announced that the 2021 Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Fair - formerly the Netley Marsh Steam Fair - had been cancelled.

A short time later another three-day event - the New Forest and Hampshire County Show - was also called off.
