A HAMPSHIRE hospice has now opened registration for its annual fundraiser to support the dying and bereaved.

Mountbatten Hampshire has opened registration for the Sunflower Walk 2021.

Formerly known as the Sunflower Memory Walk, the five-mile event takes place at the Broadlands Estate, Romsey between 10am and 2pm on July 4.

Nigel Hartley, CEO of Mountbatten, said: “This last year has been challenging for us all. At Mountbatten, our vital work caring for those living with death dying and bereavement has continued.

"However, our usual fundraising efforts, which support our essential and growing work, have been curtailed. Now you can help us, with your family and friends, by joining our Mountbatten Sunflower Walk on Sunday 4 July.

“We’re very grateful to Countess Mountbatten for agreeing to a special opening of the Broadlands Estate.

"Taking part in the Sunflower Walk within the beautiful surroundings of the Broadlands Estate in Romsey is a really special occasion and we are very grateful to everyone who participates to raise funds for Mountbatten, your local hospice and end of life care services for Southampton and west Hampshire.”

Fundraising is vital to ensure Mountbatten can continue its essential work for the dying and bereaved.

A total of £100 could provide a course of bereavement support sessions, £200 could give someone a day of personal care, helping them remain in the comfort of their own home, £250 could pay for a Mountbatten Nurse to be with a dying patient at home during the night, and £350 could pay for a 24-hour stay in a bed on our hospice ward.

The entry fee is only £23.50 for adults and £13.50 for children aged five to 17-years-old, which includes a T-shirt.

Participants are encouraged to seek sponsorship, carry out their own fundraising or make further donations to help raise the vital funds needed.

Rebecca Billington, staff nurse at Mountbatten Hampshire said: “If you live in Southampton and west Hampshire, Mountbatten Hampshire is your local Hospice.

"Every penny helps, and everyone’s support can help ensure that our services continue for those living with death, dying and bereavement."

Sunflower Walk participants are encouraged to sign up now via the Mountbatten Hampshire website at www.mountbatten-hampshire.org.uk/Event/sunflowerwalk2021.
