HAMPSHIRE fire crews responded to a blaze in New Milton last night which resulted in "an explosion" and a member of the public rescuing horses.
Images released last night on social media by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service showed the charred remains of a stable block on St John's Road in New Milton.
The fire was reportedly caused accidentally after a controlled fire nearby spread to the stable.
Fire crews from Lymington and Beaulieu fire station responded at 16:37 yesterday to the blaze.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "New Milton, Beaulieu, Lymington and DWFRS crews were called to St Johns Road in New Milton at 16:37 yesterday afternoon after a controlled burn had spread to a nearby stable.
"There were reports of explosions and a smoke plume which could be seen from a distance, before two horses were rescued from the building by members of the public, prior to the arrival of firefighters.
Two jets and four sets of breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire which destroyed the stable and damaged an overhead electricity cable.
The blaze was extinguished by 18:52.
