A SOUTHAMPTON man kicked his ex-partner in the face repeatedly as she lay on the floor, a court heard.

Shane Kean left his victim scared for her life.

Prosecution barrister, Gordon Ross said: “He grabbed her by her hair and pulled her to the floor whereupon he kicked her eight times in the face.”

Kean, 22, of Orchard Lane, said: “You need to be with me, or I will do something stupid to you.”

Mr Ross told how the woman had called the police a number of times in the past because of Kean’s violent behaviour.

He added: “As a result [of the attack] she sustained a bloody and swollen lip, and her nose was cut open.

“She was left with marks to the left side of her face.”

However, following the violent ordeal at the woman’s home in Southampton, Kean went on to send her a string of abusive calls and messages.

The court heard how she received 18 calls from an unknown number and another five from Kean’s mother’s phone.

One of the messages read: “I am going to come round to yours and you are going to be a dead woman.”

Mr Ross said: “She was frightened by his messages and deleted them because they were so vile.”

Extracts from a victim personal statement read out in court said “I feel sad and upset but most of all I feel angry. I never expected this sort of thing to happen”.

Kean’s victim even worried he would be angry at her for putting him in jail.

Appearing before Southampton Crown Court, he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a single count of harassment.

He pleaded guilty to both offences, however, he pleaded guilty to ABH on the basis he had kicked her - just not eight times.

Defending, Gaylene Coles said Kean felt very ashamed and guilty.

She argued he could be rehabilitated and helped going forward.

For the attack on December 11 last year, Judge Nicholas Rowland jailed him for 15 months and gave him a three-year restraining order.
