A HAMPSHIRE woman charged with perverting the course of justice is accused of making up “fictitious reports” to police, a court heard.

Carly Buckingham-Smith claimed she felt she was being threatened and broken down due to being harassed.

The 37-year-old of Copper Close in Eastleigh made police reports of “two men banging on her door and running off’ during the night.

On another occasion she reported she “was woken up by the doorbell ringing” but when she looked out the window could not see anyone there.

She has been charged with three counts of perverting the course of justice - which she denies.

Prosecution barrister, Simon Walters told Southampton Crown Court how she was arrested at her home on suspicion of perverting the course.

During a search of her property, involving a specially trained police dog, officers found several mobile phones and SIM cards.

When she was asked by police during an interview about the allegations of harassment and if she had created “fictitious reports” she made no comment, the court heard.

During previous court proceedings, Mr Walters read some of the agreed facts of the case.

He told how on one occasion “grass” and a word too offensive to publish had been written on Buckingham-Smith’s patio doors.

Members of the jury heard how she would regularly receive threatening text messages and calls from a withheld number.

In one of these, a threat was made to “put petrol through her letterbox and set it alight”.

The offences are alleged to have happened between July and October 2019.

The trial continues.
