THE popular British Pedal Car Grand Prix set to be held in Ringwood in July has been cancelled for the second year running.

Organisers said fears over the future of social distancing guidelines has prompted their decision to cancel.

In a statement posted on social media they said: "It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the British Pedal Car Grand Prix 2021.

"While the vaccine rollout continues and social restrictions continue to be relaxed, it has become apparent to the organising committee that our original event date of July was just going to be too early to be able to get the event running properly, in a way that didn’t do such a brilliant event an injustice.

"As an event built around, and reliant on, our amazing spectators, to try to hold the Grand Prix without the cheering crowds just wouldn’t be possible."

A spokesman said they had considered delaying the event but added: "With a packed events calendar and underlying uncertainty around Covid restrictions for late summer and early autumn of this year, we have taken the decision that it’s the lesser evil to cancel this year's event, and come back bigger and better next year.

"We are going to do all that we can to make sure that Pedal Car 2022 comes back with a bang, and we hope to see you there next summer."
