A CHARITY box thief has been jailed after he was found with a knife at a Winchester day centre.

Kevin John Blake, 41, admitted having the knife at the Trinity Winchester on Durngate on May 5. He also pleaded guilty to stealing a Macmillan Cancer Support charity box on January 25.

Basingstoke Magistrates Court jailed him for 32 weeks and ordered he pay £50 compensation for the theft of the charity box.

Blake, of City Road, Winchester, was told that the offences were aggravated by his offending record and that the theft happened whilst he was under a suspended sentence.

There was no order for costs or a victim surcharge because of Blake's lack of means.

The suspended sentence had been imposed in April 2019 for criminal damage to a VW Golf.
