A COLLEGE student is setting his sights on the United States after being selected for an NFL trial in London.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student, Rob Davey, has his sights set on the United States after he was selected to trial for the National Football League (NFL) Academy in London.

Davey, who represents Great Britain in American Football, first began playing American Football after joining the Solent Seahawks Academy in Southampton in 2018.

After a successful first season with the club in 2019, he was noticed by Scouts from the Great Britain American Football team during the final of the British American Football League.

Daily Echo: Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student, Rob Davey has been selected to trial for the National Football League (NFL) Academy in London.

But now his continued success on the pitch has meant he has been scouted once again and is now set to virtually trial for the NFL Academy in London.

If the trial goes well, Davey will have the opportunity to "transform" his sporting career by applying to play football at a college in the United States.

Davey, who also previously attended Hounsdown School said when he first started playing American Football, he never knew the impact it was going to have on his life.

"Starting out it was just a hobby which I was having fun doing but when I was given the opportunity to take it to the next level - that's when it all changed for me.

“Being given the chance to represent your nation is something to be proud of, which you take with pride as it's a whole new experience to anything you've done before.

"This has then led me to trial for the NFL Academy in London to try and pursue the dream of getting a scholarship to the United states and to play for a Division 1 college.”

Barton Peveril’s Director of Sport, Luke Hampton, added: "It’s always a pleasure to see Barton Peveril students compete in such a wide range of disciplines at such a high level.”
