A MAN suffered a wound to his groin and was taken to hospital after an incident which saw a section of a Southampton street cordoned off for hours. 

Police were called at 5.24pm on Wednesday to a report of an injured man in Howard Road in the Shirley area of the city.

On arrival, officers found a man in his 40’s with a 'puncture' wound to his groin.

He was immediately taken to University Hospital Southampton after being treated at the scene.

His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Officers are currently carrying out enquiries to establish the exact circumstances as to what happened.

A police spokesperson confirmed this evening that "no one has been arrested".

The incident saw two semi-detached properties on Howard Road cordoned off by police. 

Neighbours also reported hearing a man "screaming in pain" and seeing blood and personal belongings on the pavement. 

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary today said: "We believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider public."

A further statement read: "We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident at this time."
