A SOUTHAMPTON man has vented his fury about a “lake” which forms outside his flat due to a blocked drain.
Nick Buck has had enough.
The 52-year-old who lives in Foyes Court off Shirley Road says that he is sick and tired of a lake that forms every time it rains.
Nick has lived in the block of flats for three years and believes the problem is caused by a blocked drain.
When it rains, water backs up and floods an area of road so residents can’t access their car park and one of the entrances to the building.
The affected area is at the end of the Western District Cut which is off Stafford Road.
Nick says the situation was especially bad with the water a foot deep in places last Sunday when there was heavy rain.
Speaking to a Daily Echo reporter, he voiced his concern for elderly residents and explained that when it floods, they must either wade through the dirty water or walk along a narrow and potentially dangerous curb.
Furthermore, the road is just outside St Mark’s Primary School - which is currently being expanded.
Nick who is medically retired, stressed that the floodwater could impact children and parents during the daily school run.
Describing the situation as annoying, he said: “Residents are fighting to try and get the drain sorted out so when it rains the water actually runs away. And so we don’t have to walk across a lake to get to the car park.
“I have been on the phone [to the council] and must have rung them about 15 times.
“The whole road was flooded about a foot deep. You can’t get into the car park. Nothing is getting done.
“I am getting sick and tired of it. It’s not fair. They need to dig it up.”
Nick says that the water can take a day or more to drain, and since February, he has rung the council multiple times.
However, he says that nothing has been done.
Councillor Jeremy Moulton, Cabinet Member for Growth said: “We are aware of the situation near Foyes Court and are working with our highways partner Balfour Beatty Living Places to investigate the issue. This area has been reported to us and visited by Balfour Beatty Living Places on a few occasions, but due to parked cars over the gullies they have been unable to access the area to carry out an investigation. We will prioritise and will be on-site again next week to take further action to resolve the flooding. I would like to apologise to Mr Buck that the city council hasn’t responded to him personally and we will contact him directly to provide further details of what action will be taken.”
