WITH a boom in staycations expected this Summer, many tourists are expected to flock to beaches across the UK.

In a bid to beat the crowds, we have come up with a list of lesser known and likely lesser dense beaches that are worth visiting this year.

Here are some secret beaches you can visit across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Barton-on-Sea

This short, shingle beach has stunning high, clay cliffs that make for an amazing walk with views over Hengistbury Head and across the Solent.

From the top of the 30-metre-high cliffs you can look out across Christchurch Bay with views of the Isle of Wight to the east.

Gurnard's 'hidden' beach in the North Wight

This little-known beach is hidden from view as it backs on to woodland and can only be accessed via a footpath called Shore Path behind Gurnard Sailing Club. The quiet shingle beach is good for families with a children's playground area located behind the beach huts.

Hill Head Beach

The stretch of shingle beach is backed by a tarmac walkway with free car parking nearby.

To the western end of the beach you will find a little harbour in the mouth of the River Meon and beyond is the Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve. It is a perfect spot for watching the world go by as boats drift past.

Stokes Bay

A shingle beach with panoramic views of the Solent and Isle of Wight. The mile long stretch of beach starts at Gilkicker Point in the east to MOD owned Browndown in the west.  There is a large grassy area adjacent to the beach, with a place for barbecues. Locals praise the beach for being unspoilt, clean and away from the crowds.

Watcombe Bay, Fresh Water, Isle of Wight

Watcombe Bay is only a few yards around the corner from Freshwater Bay but the only way to get there, is to swim or Kayak around.

Those who fancy making the trip will find a pebble beach with patches of sand and virtually no people. For adventurers there are plenty of caves to explore.
