WHERE has tradition gone?

I was on the shore at Netley watching the new P&O cruise ship Iona come into port with her escort of a helicopter, and fire boats with her horn blaring: "Look at me I m magnificent."

But there was a flotilla of just one small craft.

In the olden days when liners like America, the United States and France first cam into port the water was alive with welcoming craft. You couldn't find room to swim.

What a shame if this tradition has been lost.
