A RADIO 1 presents has paid a small tribute to a well-known Southampton nightclub.

Oceana Southampton has announced that after 15 years the club will close and move its night events to Switch Southampton.

This comes after the owner of the club, Deltic Group, tried to secure a "rescue deal" in late 2020 to avoid going into administration.

The news has come as a shock to many who will be sad to see it go, including one Radio 1 presenter.

Chris Stark took to Twitter yesterday to share his sadness following the news.

He wrote: "Was a resident DJ here for years. Great times. Sad to see it close."

Another Tweet read: "What a place..." and contained a number of photos of Stark at the club.

Oceana Southampton said: "After 15 years of memories, today is both a sad and exciting day. The Oceana dance floor will not jump again but this is not the end.

"From June 21st, we have agreed to move our Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday night events to Switch Southampton.

"We’ve always been fans of the events Switch host and now Southampton will experience the buzz of Oceana & Switch working together!"
