CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 52 new homes in Eastleigh are due to be discussed tomorrow.

In November 2019, Cranbury Estates Limited applied for outline planning permission to build up to 53 homes on a 10-acre site west of Allbrook Way, Eastleigh.

The plans included a range of house types including terraced, semi detached and detached properties ranging from one to four-bedrooms.

Of the 53 homes, two of them were planned to be one-bedroom, 19 would be two-bedroom, 20 three-bedroom and 12 four-bedroom.

The homes would be 35 percent affordable and mostly two-storey, with a small number of bungalows included.

The application was previously considered at a meeting of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee (ELAC) on March 22 with members deciding to defer the application to allow for consideration to be given as to whether children’s play provision could be provided.

Now though, it is set to be discussed again at an ELAC meeting tomorrow after changes were made including reducing the amount of homes from 53 to 52.

Council officers have recommended that members delegate the decision back to the head of housing and development in conjunction with the chairman and vice chairman of ELAC to grant permission.

The consultation for the application ended on December 17, 2020, with 26 letters of objection having been received.

Objections referred to concerns about the loss of green fields, overdevelopment, and a lack of infrastructure.

One resident, J Bloomfield, said: “At peak times, the traffic on the roundabout at the junction of Allbrook Way and Woodside Avenue is already badly congested.”

Another, Warren Lincoln added: “This will add to the already poor traffic congestion and will add increase pressure to the local schools and public services.”

But the developer, claims that the site can “comfortably accommodate” the housing which is said to maximise opportunities for alternative modes of transport.
