SOUTHAMPTON is set to scorch this week with the hottest weekend of the year predicted for the city.
The Met Office has predicted that temperatures could reach a sizzling 24C, adding that it will "probably been the warmest weekend of the year so far".
So far, the hottest day of the year was recorded on Tuesday, June 1, which reached a high of 24.1C.
The warmest weekend day was three days earlier with 22.6C on Saturday, May 29.
This weekend, Saturday is set to reach a high of around 22C and Sunday is expected to hit a high of 24C.
A spokesperson from the Met Office told the Daily Echo: "Temperatures could even be a little higher in Southampton this weekend, with 23 or 24 Celsius likely on Sunday. It probably will be your warmest weekend of the year so far.
"The highest temperature recorded at Southampton Oceanography centre so far this year is 24.1C but that was on Tuesday 1 June.
"The warmest weekend day was three days earlier with 22.6C on Saturday 29 May."
With the hotter temperature comes higher UV levels, so suncream is a must for everyone planning on catching some sun.
