A SOUTHAMPTON nightclub is looking forward to starting again in a new venue.

Last week, Oceana Southampton announced that after 15 years the club will close and move its night events to Switch Southampton.

With the redevelopment of Leisure World set to take place, the opportunity to enter a joint enterprise with Switch was "too good to be missed" according to Rekom UK which operates Oceana.

This comes after the previous owner of the club, The Deltic Group, was brought out of administration by Rekom in December.

The undisclosed deal saw the company take over 42 bars and clubs across the country, saving, what was estimated at the time as, 1,300 jobs.

Now the company is looking ahead as it moved Oceana's popular night events to their new home.

A spokesperson from REKOM UK, which operates Oceana, said: “We are committed to being a key part of Southampton’s night time economy for the long term and look forward to an exciting future in the heart of this great city.

"It has been wonderful to read all the fond memories people have of nights out at Oceana and it’s heart breaking that we haven’t been able to give the club the send-off it deserves, but we hope to create many more fun and memorable moments in our new venue for the next generation of clubbers who have missed out on so much this past 18 months.”

The company added that no jobs have been lost due to the closure, and any staff who are currently employed at Oceana will be transferred to Switch.
