A SOUTHAMPTON road was closed off after a car burst into flames.
Hinkler Road was closed near its junction with Bursledon Road last night after a fire ripped through a car.
The vehicle was completely destroyed during the incident at around 5.10pm.
A crew from Hightown Fire Station raced to the scene with traffic and buses forced to divert.
According to Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, the private vehicle was unattended at the time.
The cause of the fire is at this point unknown, however, police have been notified.
The stop message came in at 5.39pm.
A police spokesperson said: "
"We were called at 5.12pm yesterday to Hinkler Road in Southampton to reports of a car on fire.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
