HONEY BEES have been swarming Southampton city centre.
A swarm of bees has been buzzing around the city centre.
Thousands of the insects were spotted outside Revolución de Cuba in Above Bar Street on Monday afternoon, according to the city council
However, people have been warned not to be alarmed and told that there is "nothing to worry about".
A social media post from Southampton City Council said: "We've had reports of swarms of Honey Bees in Southampton, the photo shows the Cuban Bar in the city centre today.🐝🐝
"Although they're loud and can be quite alarming, there's nothing to worry about as they're not aggressive and won't sting you.
"A swarm happens when a hive becomes overcrowded, a new queen appears and the old queen and a gang of around 20,000 go on the run. They head for temporary lodgings while scout bees look for somewhere safe to settle.
"As bee numbers continue to decline we should be pleased to see swarms of bees, as if they are swarming, it means they’re creating new colonies."
Anyone with concerns about swarming bees should contact the British Beekeepers Association.
