ORGANISERS of a Hampshire 10k event are still keen to hold the event next month following Boris Johnson's roadmap announcement.

After Boris Johnson pushed back the easing of lockdown from June 21 to July 19, the organisers of Eastleigh 10k have announced on Facebook that they would still like to stage the event on July 4.

They say they are currently awaiting advice from various authorities and agencies on the event, but if the 10k is not permitted to take place before the July 19 easing of restrictions, then they do have "back up dates" in place.

The Hendy Eastleigh 10k is one of the largest road races in the country and was postponed last year due to the pandemic after being planned to take place in March.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, organisers said: "Following the Government announcement yesterday I would like to update you about the event on 4 July as it continues to be a difficult time to plan for outdoor and indoor events. As we have all seen over recent weeks/months things can change quickly which can be very frustrating for us all.

"We would still like to stage the event on 4 July and we are currently awaiting advice from various authorities and agencies to run a Covid compliant event during this month extension -in particular with regards to the start area to ensure runners are kept safe.

"Depending on the advice we receive - we may again be faced with the possibility of another postponement until after 19 July. However we do have some back up dates already in place and we will update you as soon as possible."

They also added that they are "committed" to staging the event and thanked everyone for their "support, patience and understanding".

This comes as other running events, such as Parkrun have been forced to delay their returns until July 24 due to the announcement by the Prime Minister.
