A SOUTHAMPTON landlady has vented her anger at football fans trashing her pub.
Corrine Yendle has been left angry and upset after a mob of youths climbed over the walls at The Dolphin.
During England’s semi-final win over Denmark earlier this week the troublemakers tore down lights and ripped tiles from the walls in the women’s toilets.
The 52-year-old has said that the incident at the watering hole off Osborne Road South caused damage worth around £800.
As a result, she plans to introduce a £5 entry fee for punters for the Euro 2020 final on Sunday, as well as wristbands to monitor who goes in and out of the pub.
Speaking about the incident on Wednesday, Corrine said rowdy fans - who were not regulars - climbed on tables, damaged a marquee and flicked cigarettes at an outside projection screen.
Corrine and her staff were also subjected to “vile abuse” and sworn at when they refused to serve any more drinks to the troublesome fans.
She said: “When England score, they jump up onto the tables. The tables flip over. They’re on the marquee, pulling the marquee down. It was swaying from side to side. If they pull that down everyone is going to get injured inside. They’ve ripped all the fairy lights from out under the tent. All the decorations we had up there are all gone. They were throwing cigarette butts at the projector screen. I don’t get it?
She added: “I would much prefer to take thousands of pounds less and have security for the staff and the punters so they can enjoy themselves than to be panicking every time England score. We want them to celebrate. We want them to enjoy themselves. But don’t destroy our property. It just ruins it for everybody. They wouldn’t do it in their own home so don’t do it to your local. We’ve had a hard enough time not being able to trade for 16 months. It just makes me angry that they come in and disrespect a place like that. The last thing we want to do is pull the plug on the screen. That affects the people who have been behaving themselves.”
Corrine plans to take a tougher stance on Sunday when England clash with Italy.
The landlady said: “If England lose, goodness knows what’s going to happen.”
