FIVE areas of Southampton are seeing Covid cases and infections rates moving towards levels last seen at the beginning of the January national lockdown.

The latest data from Public Health England shows that the areas of Regents Park and Millbrook, Central Southampton West, Central Southampton East, St Denys, and Townhill Park have seen rates return to levels similar to the start of the year.

Of those, Central Southampton West recorded the most cases (59) and also the worst infection rate (531.1) with one in every 188 people in the area suffering with Covid, in the seven day-to July 8.

The biggest decrease in the city was Bassett Green, which saw new cases drop by 7 (20%) from the previous week’s total to 28.

Overall, Southampton recorded 282 new cases (51.5% increase) in the week-to July 8, leaving it with 830. This meant the city as a whole had an infection rate of 328.7, which equated to one in every 304 city residents testing positive for coronavirus in the time period.

Across Hampshire, 2,983 new cases were recorded – and increase of 1,127 (60.7%). This left the county with an infection rate of 215.8 with one in every 463 people testing positive. This data does not include the cities of Southampton or Portsmouth.

Central Southampton East

The area recorded 58 new cases in the week-to July 8, which was an increase of 30 (107.1%). This left it was an infection rate of 408.4, which means one in every 245 people in the area tested positive for Covid.

This was similar to the week-to January 14, when the area recorded 59 new cases, down 4 (-6.3%). This left it with an infection rate of 415.5.

The area recorded 59 new cases in the week-to July 8, which was an increase of 32 (118.5%). This left it was an infection rate of 531.1, which means one in every 188 people in the area tested positive for Covid.

This was similar to the week-to January 14, when the area recorded 51 new cases, down 6 (-10.5%). This left it with an infection rate of 459.1.

The area recorded 36 new cases in the week-to July 8, which was an increase of 16 (80.0%). This left it was an infection rate of 469.1, which means one in every 213 people in the area tested positive for Covid.

This was similar to the week-to January 21, when the area recorded 41 new cases, down 20 (-32.8%). This left it with an infection rate of 534.2. In the week-to January 14, the area saw 61 new cases, and had an infection rate of 794.8.

The area recorded 38 new cases in the week-to July 8, which was an increase of 5 (15.2%). This left it was an infection rate of 442.7, which means one in every 226 people in the area tested positive for Covid.

This was similar to the week-to January 14, when the area recorded 37 new cases, down 37 (-50%). This left it with an infection rate of 431.1. There was no change to the number of new cases nor infection rate in the following week.

The area recorded 28 new cases in the week-to July 8, which was an increase of 11 (64.7%). This left it was an infection rate of 479.9, which means one in every 208 people in the area tested positive for Covid.

This was similar to the week-to January 14, when the area recorded 30 new cases, down 6 (-16.7%). This left it with an infection rate of 514.2.
