PLANS have been released for a new Aldi store at Hedge End Retail Park.

Leaflets have been sent out to nearby residents as the company launches its consultation on one of its latest stores.

It is said that if the store gets the go ahead, up to 30 jobs could be created, paying more than the National Living Wage.

The 1,315 sqm site is also expected to utilise sustainable techniques and modern materials.

This comes less than a month after the company released a list of all the locations it would like to set up stores, with Hedge End featuring as well as Eastleigh and Southampton.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Aldi has wanted to open a new store in Hedge End, Southampton for some time and is delighted to have a found a site at the Hedge End Retail Park. The site is ideally located, on an existing retail facility with good transport links.

“We know that local people are currently travelling out of the area for our award-winning offer and this would ensure we can provide easier access to Aldi’s quality products at low prices.”

The shop is planned to include customer toilets with disabled access and free customer car parking spaces.

As well as this, sustainable travel measures are set to be made including up to 20 electric vehicle charging points and bicycle parking provisions.

Eastleigh Borough Council leader and Hedge End ward councillor, Keith House said: “Aldi is a great store and if a planning application comes in for this site we’ll look at it closely. There are traffic worries given the layout with the motorway junction, so a lot will depend on the County Council’s views on traffic.”
