IT'S the stark reality facing smokers if they fail to kick the habit - more wrinkles.

Those unable to give up cigarettes could see for themselves just what they will look like in years to come thanks to the latest, innovative computer software.

Southampton City Quitters, a group that helps people stop smoking, organised a three-day event at Southampton General Hospital inviting dozens of smokers to see their aging face up to the age of 72.

Those that took part could then compare their face with that of a far less wrinkled non-smoker.

Organisers hope the images will persuade those already thinking of giving up to do so, particularly as many smokers make it their New Year's resolution to kick the habit.

The Daily Echo sent reporter James Maden along to join Southampton residents in finding out just what his smoking habit would do to them in their later years. To see what happened buy your weekend edition of the Daily Echo.
