TRIBUTES have been paid to a "loving and caring" Southampton woman who died in a crash on a major Southampton road.

Mia Wort was the passenger of a Ford Focus which was involved in a crash with a black Audi A3 on Kanes Hill.

The 18-year-old of Honeysuckle Road, was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries.

Following the incident at around 1.20am on Saturday, Mia's family have issued a joint statement, which says: “Words cannot express the heartache we all feel by having Mia taken away from us so suddenly and so unnecessarily.

“She was a loving and caring daughter, sister and mother.

“We watched with pride as she took her first steps as a new parent with her family by her side. She was looking forward to a long future with her daughter; this has now been taken away from her and leaves a void that can never be filled.

“As a family we will pull together to ensure that her memory never fades away and that her daughter will know her mother.”

A 36-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit; dangerous driving; failing to stop following a road traffic collision; aggravated vehicle taking; causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving and causing death by driving whilst disqualified.

He has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Officers have now renewed their witnesses appeal and are pleaded for anyone who may have information to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: "Did you see what happened? Do you have dash cam footage of the incident? Maybe you saw either of these vehicles shortly before the collision?
