HE’S an experienced glass engraver who discovered a hidden passion for designing and handcrafting Tiffany style lanterns during the pandemic.
Richard Stickler from Warsash has launched Agate Lamps, producing one of a kind pieces of artwork for the home.
He told the Daily Echo: “I have many years in the business but, having never worked with stained glass materials before, I was venturing into uncharted territory.

“Although it was certainly a learning curve, it’s proven to be very rewarding seeing the final pieces come together. I found myself being inundated with orders for the musical themed candle box column designs.

“They’re unique individual pieces of art plus an attractive lighting solution as well.”
Each lamp is completely unique, as Rich explains: “Each lamp is a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork and all are signed. The styling is influenced by the 20th-century Dutch painter ‘Piet Mondrain’. They stand on a branded handcrafted oak base, treated with a beeswax finish and stamped with a corresponding serial number. On purchase, all lamps are provided with a certificate of authenticity.
“Appealing to the interior design industry, they compliment many styles of home decor. I don’t think anyone in this country is doing anything like them.”
An 'agate' is a rock formation 250 million years in the making and hailing from volcanic regions. The signature design, pictured, utilises white antique opalescent rolled stained glass integrated with the agates. The designs, with two vertical lines and five horizontal lines, are replicated on each panel including the top side. They stand on a simple solid oak base.
The musical themed stained glass candle box column lanterns are nods to musical greats including The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush and BB King. These are again one off pieces using etched and stained glass and each lantern is hand signed.
