FERRIES between the Isle of Wight and Southampton are delayed by up to 90 minutes.
In a Tweet, ferry operator Red Funnel said that the 7.30pm from Southampton and the 9pm from Cowes are both delayed by up to 90 minutes.
This is said to be due to a mechanical issue with the red Falcon.
Now Google Maps shows that traffic is slow around the Red Funnel terminal at Town Quay.
A Red Funnel spokesperson said: “We are experiencing disruption to our timetable this afternoon.
"This follows a routine technical inspection which resulted in the need to remove the Red Falcon from service to allow for repairs to be made to the engine due to an issue with the cooling system.
"The safety of our passengers and team is our number one priority and we are working hard to keep traffic moving, with all passengers being transferred to another sailing.
"We will issue an update on Red Falcon’s return to service as soon as we have more information.
“We advise anyone travelling today to arrive no sooner than advised and to check the service status on the Red Funnel website where updated departure and arrival times are available.
"We do appreciate that this will disrupt people’s plans for today and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
Vehicle Ferry 19:30 from Southampton and 21:00 from Cowes delayed by up to 90mins for all booked traffic due to a mechanical issue with the Red Falcon. We apologise for any inconvenience to your journey.
