A TEEN has been left with serious injuries after he was stabbed on a Southampton train.

The incident happened on board a train at St Denys station at 11.45am this morning.

Police and paramedics attended and a young man was taken to hospital.

British Transport Police initially said the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, but later said the victim was "seriously injured".

Officers remained on scene as enquiries into the incident continued.

A spokesperson said: "We were called earlier to Osbourne Road to a situation involving a teenage male. 

"We sent to the scene an ambulance crew and three ambulance officers.  They were assessing and treating one patient for serious injuries. 

"Following treatment at the scene by all our crews the patient was taken to hospital."

A spokesperson BTP added: "Any witnesses who haven’t already spoken to police are asked to contact BTP by text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 222 of 21/07/21."

Train operator South Western Railways says, as a result of the incident, delays are expected until 4pm this afternoon.
