A PLAY park is due to cost £60,000 to be replaced after it was destroyed in two fires.

On July 10, Swaythling's Daisy Dip play area was again ravaged by fire just weeks after another blaze that destroyed the sites main play equipment.

Following the first fire, a GoFundMe page was set up by Friends of Daisy Dip to raise the funds for the equipment to be replaced.

Since then though, Southampton City Council announced that it would be providing £35,000 to fund the works.

Now though, at a full council meeting today, Cllr Steven Galton announced that the council will be replacing the damaged equipment from the second fire as well.

The complete repair is expected to cost around £60,000 and comes on top of £2,048 that was raised by Friends of Daisy Dip which the group now says will go towards further improvements to the area.

Since the first fire which took place on June 23, police have launched an arson probe and a statement from the Friends of Daisy Dip community group said: “We are beyond gutted to see the play park destroyed again over the weekend. We feel sad, angry, tired."
