A MAN has been charged after another man was attacked and hit over the head with a hammer.

Jessie Cross, 24, of Lawn Road, Southampton has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, assault by beating and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

This comes after a man in his 40s was hit over the head with a hammer on June 24 outside the Royal South Hants Hospital.

The incident took place in Raven Road at 2.38pm and led to the man being rushed to Southampton General Hospital.

It was said that he suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

Cross appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today.

He has been remanded to next appear at Southampton Crown Court on August 18.

Another man, aged 48, from Waterlooville was initially arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was later released under investigation.
