POLICE have taped off a main street in a Hampshire town.

Officers have cordoned off and area near the Poundland store in West Street, Fareham.

People are being urged to avoid the area.

A statement on a Fareham Police social media page said: "We are currently dealing with a police incident on West Street, Fareham.

"Police are erecting a 100m cordon from Poundland on West Street, and advise people to keep away from the area at this time.

"Thank you for your patience - we will provide you further updates when we are in a position to do so."

Hampshire Constabulary has refused to share any more information at this time.


Meanwhile, Fareham bus station is reportedly closed with vehicles unable to leave or enter.
