Thunderstorms have been forecast all weekend for Southampton and the rest of Hampshire.

Lightning and heavy rain hit the area last night, captured on cameras across the area.

Two houses in Hampshire were severely damaged by fire after they were struck by lightning.

The thunderstorm warning is in place until 10pm tonight, with another starting at 9am on Sunday until midnight.

In an update to today, a Met Office spokesperson said: "The thunderstorms which affected some southern areas overnight and earlier this morning have largely faded now but further slow-moving thunderstorms are likely to develop by Saturday afternoon across southern counties of England and perhaps southeast Wales, easing only slowly through the evening.

"Not all places affected but where they occur, a renewed threat of torrential rainfall and flooding, some locations seeing 30 to 50 mm within an hour or two.

"Lightning will be an additional hazard, while large hail and gusty winds could occur in a few places, more likely towards the east of the warning area."

Sunday's warning says: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across southern and eastern England and southeast Wales on Sunday.

"Some of the heaviest showers are expected to affect the southeast of England late morning after a period of early morning rainfall, before developing more widely across the warning area during the afternoon.

"Torrential downpours may develop in some places with hail and gusty winds additional hazards. Rainfall amounts will vary considerably from place to place, but there is the potential for up to 80-100 mm to build up in some locations over the course of the day."
