A canteen provides not just food, but a welcome respite from work and shelter from the weather.

Major construction projects demand good facilities for their teams, which is why Willbox say they were proud to provide canteen containers for the construction of Southampton’s major new cruise terminal.

The anti-vandal site canteens or ‘messrooms’ can include a variety of features.

The cruise terminal project included a combination of four containers, supplied with a workstation and sink, water and electricity, and furnished with tables and chairs.

The new, next-generation Southampton terminal pioneers the use of green technology.

Constructed using green and renewable materials, it includes roof-mounted solar power.

Most important for the local area, an innovative plug-in shore power system will allow cruise ships to turn off their polluting generators when in dock, instead running their onboard systems with power from the local electricity grid.

This is a UK first, and offered by only a handful of ports worldwide, though most new cruise ships are now equipped with the ability to plug in.

Willbox, part of the Williams Shipping Group, has over 25 years’ experience in container hire and new and used shipping container sales.
