A WEST End road has been closed for five weeks as the council carries out repair work.

Moorgreen Road in West End is closed from now until August 27 whilst Hampshire County Council improves drainage in the area.

The closure will be in place 24 hours a day in this time period and will covers a one mile section of the road between Monarch Way and Barrowfield Close.

During this time, a traffic diversion will be in place via Bubb Lane, Tollbar Way and Botley Road.

The length of the diversion is 2.1 miles.

Councillor Russell Oppenheimer, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Highways Operations, said: “We are undertaking essential highway drainage repairs at various locations, as well as installing a new pipe.

"When the works are complete, surface water will flow via the new drain rather than being dispersed into roadside ditches.

"These drainage improvement works are part of our countywide Operation Resilience programme designed to make Hampshire’s roads more resilient to the effects of extreme weather and heavy traffic.

"A signed diversion route is in place.”
