A LOT has changed in Southampton since the late-2000s - but it's hard to remember how much.

Well, we are here to help.

Using special 'time-travelling' technology in the form of a handy feature on Google Maps' Street View, we can now show you how much the city has been altered in the past 11(ish) years!

Below are some of the biggest changes were have seen in Southampton.

Southampton Cultural Quarter/Guildhall Square

This, we think, is one of the best places to start. Without a doubt one of the biggest changes the city has seen.

In the past ten years, the area has been completely transformed into a bustling hub - and barely recognisable from the rundown area it once was.

Guildhall Square even had bushes!

Ocean Village

Another with big changes is Ocean Village. Remember those big appartment buildings weren't always there...!

The area is now, like around Southampton's Guildhall, a busy place with bars, restaurants and is a popular nightlife destination.

Bedford Place/Carlton Place

Although it hasn't changed a lot to the untrained eye, those of us who spent a lot of our time here will see the alterations.

With new bars taking over from old pubs, and new eateries coming in, the area has a different feel to what it did over a decade ago - especially with the albeit temporary pedestrian closures being brought in!

Old Southampton/Queensway

An area of the city which has probably seen the biggest update in Southampton, with old buildings torn down to make way for flashier flats, Queensway really is unrecognisable.

Remember before the flats were built? I'm struggling to...

And the shops that used to line the street, before they were knocked down to make way for the soon-to-be-built Bargate Quarter - they also feel like a distant memory.

East Street

Remember this? The old shopping centre feels like it has been gone for decades, but in reality it's only been one!

Who remembers shopping there? I do.

Bargate

And speaking of that area, it is hard to now picture the Bargate with any buildings around it, but 11 years ago it didn't stand so... alone.

As mentioned above, the buildings - as well as the Bargate Shopping Centre - were taken down for the impending Bargate Quarter.

Toys R Us

One of the saddest sights in the city currently: The empty and overgrown area that once house Toys R Us.

Always busy, the superstore has been empty since 2018. Remember your last visit?

Albion Towers

Last but by no means least, one of the visual changes we've all seen is the painting of Albion Towers.

The homes near to St Mary's Stadium were once a dull, greyish colour, before they were given the famous red and white makeover a few years ago.

Now they can be seen from across the city, and especially on match days!
