TWO care home workers have been recognised in a national awards for going "the extra mile".

Rachel Anderson and Myra Wadhams from The Fernes Care Home in Catisfield have been crowned the winners for the South Division in the Barchester care Awards 2021.

The awards are aimed at celebrating the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 12,000 residents living in the companies care homes.

More than 2,900 nominations were received and having won for their area, the pair are now through to the national round of judging which staff and residents at the care home are said to be "over the moon with".

General Manager, Cassie Munnoch, said: “This is an amazing achievement and the whole home is supporting Myra and Rachel. We are so proud to have two members of team nominated and representing the South Division in the finals."

Myra and Rachel will now join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

Rachel Anderson, winner of the Community Engagement Award said: “It is an absolute pleasure to work at The Fernes, I take great pride in my work and I am very passionate about caring for the elderly, involving the community in our events and having constant contact with families and friends of the residents is what I love.”
