IT’S official, these are Southampton’s best rated pubs and bars.

With hundreds of 5* reviews, the city’s top drinking spots have been revealed by TripAdvisor.

They are ranked by a combination of the amount of top tier ‘excellent’ reviews, and the percentage compared to the number of total comments.

But who has claimed the top spot?

Situated on Above Bar Street, Revolucion de Cuba heads the list, with 270 ‘excellent’ reviews out of the 399 written.

 “We were blown away at how efficient and friendly the service was. The cocktails were fantastic, and the food was delicious,” said one 5* reviewer.

“Very friendly staff offering a warm welcome on a busy bank holiday weekend. The food was exceptional,” said another.

Those reviews have also placed the Cuban bar 12th overall across the country for 5* reviews.

Across the city, Brewdog claims second spot. The chain recorded 45 ‘excellent’ reviews out of 80.

Daily Echo:

“Visited with our two small children and honestly had the best experience,” one reviewer said, “We were only going to have a drink but ended up staying for dinner! So lovely to find a bar like this that was so family friendly. I couldn’t recommend it enough.”

In third was The Mitre on Portswood Road. The pub, owned by Greene King, has 66 ‘excellent’ reviews out of 134.

One reviewer said: “Just moved to the area and tried the pub. Food is amazing and cheap! Staff are so friendly and welcoming!”

Another added: “Came in for a meal and drinks with friends. We were greeted with great service great food and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend people to visit.”

Taking fourth spot is The Black Phoenix, just around the corner from Brewdog! It recorded 21 ‘excellent’ reviews out of 25.

One reviewer, who called it a ‘great pub’, said: “Came across this by chance on a visit to Southampton. Lovely pub with character and a great atmosphere. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of drinks. Would recommend.”

And in fifth is the Flying Dutchman, on Terminus Terrace. The bar racked up 31 ‘excellent’ reviews out of 51.

One reviewer said: “Wonderful food and pleasant surroundings. We had the steak ale and mushroom pie - it was the best pie I’ve ever had in a restaurant! Definitely going back to try other menu items. Great to find such good food in the middle of city. Is also a boutique Hotel.”
