A DEVELOPER has submitted plans to replace a group of "unsightly and derelict" buildings with more than 100 homes.

Vivid Homes is seeking consent to build scores of flats and houses on a large rectangular site between Toynbee Road, Eastleigh, and the town's cemetery.

The land is described as the last industrial site in the Toynbee Road area.

A previous plan to build 117 properties has been replaced by a 105-home scheme, with 35% of the units classed as affordable.

The application says the scheme has been amended "to mitigate any problems that may cause concern throughout the development's lifespan".

It adds: "The western-most block has been removed to encourage biodiversity and retain the natural edge to the cemetery. These units have been redistributed, creating additional amenity space and a natural termination to the east-west route through the site."

The two-hectare site is separated from more northern parts of Eastleigh by the town's railway line.

The application says the homes have been designed in what it describes as an "acoustically-sensitive manner" by positioning rooms away from the line.

It adds: "The land that is currently occupied by unsightly and derelict industrial warehouses, a car sales lot and a storage yard. The proposal seeks to make good use of this under-utilised land with a high quality contemporary housing scheme."

The proposal is outlined in a Public Notice published by Eastleigh Borough Council, which will determine the application.
