JUST two of Southampton’s 31 Covid clusters saw cases rise in the latest seven-day data period.

Public Health England’s latest data showed that in the week to-July 26, the districts of Swaythling (39 cases, up 4) and Thornhill (30 cases, up 2) were the only two in the city to record increased cases.

One other area, Shirley South (51 cases) recorded no change, with the remaining 28 all noting drops in cases.

Of those, the biggest drops were seen in Central Southampton East (60 cases, down 42), Newtown and Nicholstown (50 cases, down 39), and Redbridge and Millbrook West (34 cases, down 34).

Southampton as a whole recorded 997 cases, down 485 cases or -32.7%. This left the city with an average infection rate of 394.8, or one case per 253 people.

In comparison to Hampshire, the area recorded 3,581 cases, down 2,689 cases or -42.9% in the same time period. It was left with an infection rate of 259.0, or one case per every 386 people. The Hampshire data does not include cases from Southampton or Portsmouth.

Clusters are shown when there are three or more new cases reported at any one time.

Anywhere with between zero and two cases are shown in white in order to "protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure", the Government organisation states.

There were no areas of Southampton that recorded fewer than three cases in the seven days to-July 26.
