PROGRESS is being made on a planned puffin crossing on a main Winchester road.

Local people successfully pressed the county council for the crossing to help people heading across Andover Road to Kings Barton and its new primary school.

A feasibility study has now been completed and £260,000 has been set aside by the county council for the work in the 2021-22 year capital programme. The crossing is being funded by s106 money from developers.

The news was given by county councillor Rob Humby executive lead member for economy, transport and environment at his decision day last Thursday.

Cllr Martin Tod, Lib Dem, told the county council decision day: "I welcome the extra investment in the Andover Road Puffin crossing. This is the kind of spending we need to be doing making it easier for people to walk around the area safely and supporting public transport."
