SOUTHAMPTON has been ranked as one of the worst cities in the country to be an Airbnb host.

Analysis by international payment experts RationalFX on 27 major British cities found that Southampton came in at 23, just falling into the bottom five.

The research looked at data from AirDNA and ONS to find which UK city offers the best combination of low property prices and high revenue from renting out via Airbnb.

It found that Southampton's monthly revenue was £997, with an occupancy rate of 63 per cent.

The median house price was found to be £300,000 in the city with 711 active rentals and 25 years of Airbnb revenue required to cover the property price.

The best city was Bradford which had a monthly revenue of £1,229, an 83 per cent occupancy rate, a median house price of £135,000, 518 active rentals and only nine years needed to cover the cost of the property from Airbnb revenue.

Making up the rest of the bottom five with Southampton was Coventry, Leicester, London and Luton respectively.
