EMERGENCY services and the air ambulance were called to a tower block in Southampton after a woman fell.

Police and ambulance including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance raced to Rotterdam Towers off International Way following reports a woman had fallen from the building.

A police cordon was put in place and a tent erected at the scene in the Weston area of the city at around 2pm on Monday.

Paramedics and firefighters were also called to assist.

Local residents described seeing the woman receiving CPR at the scene and looked on as the air ambulance launched into the sky - although it is not clear if the victim was on board.

Asked about her current condition, the emergency services have been unable to provide any further information since the incident occurred.

One witness who wished to remain anonymous said: “I just saw the helicopter and saw it was coming to land.

“I saw them doing CPR. It’s quite sad really.”

He reported that the woman is believed to be in her 50s.

Another man added: “I was just parking and the next minute I saw the air ambulance.

“I came up and saw the helicopter landing.

“There were loads of people.”

According to police, the callout was a concern for welfare incident.

The air ambulance left at around 3.30pm, however, police patrol cars and ambulances remained on the scene with officers carrying out further investigations.

A spokesperson for the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) said: “SCAS were called this afternoon at 14:02 to International Way to a medical emergency.

“We sent to the scene an ambulance crew, ambulance officer, rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.”

A police spokesperson added: “We were called at 2.05pm this afternoon (2 August) in relation to the concern for welfare of a woman in Southampton.

“She had fallen from a property at Rotterdam Towers, International Way in Southampton.”
