A WOMAN has died after falling from a Southampton tower block, police have confirmed.

A 54-year-old woman has died after falling from Rotterdam Towers off International Way.

Emergency services raced to the Weston area of the city shortly after 2pm yesterday.

However, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the woman died.

According to police, the woman's next of kin have been informed.

Furthermore, the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.

Mourners have left floral tributes have since been laid at the scene.

One Rotterdam Towers resident who wished to remain unnamed described the incident as "heartbreaking" and told the Daily Echo how emergency services had stayed in the area until around 7.30pm.

As reported, police taped off the entrance to the tower and a tent was put up.

According to the force, officers were called to the scene due to a "concern for welfare" incident. 

One witness said: “I saw the helicopter and saw it was coming to land.
“I saw them doing CPR. It’s quite sad really.”

Another man added: “I was just parking and the next minute I saw the air ambulance.

“I came up and saw the helicopter landing.

“There were loads of people.”

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.05pm [on August 2] in relation to the concern for welfare of a woman in Southampton. 

“The woman, 54, fell from a window of a flat at Rotterdam Towers on International Way in Southampton and sadly died. 

“Her next of kin have been informed.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two Redbridge crews were called at 2.38pm on Monday afternoon to assist Hampshire Constabulary partners with an incident at Rotterdam Towers in Southampton. 

“They provided equipment to protect the scene.”
