ANOTHER Winchester home will be demolished to make way for new properties, if a planning application is given the go-ahead.

Shorewood Homes has applied to Winchester City Council to build four homes and new access following the demolition of 30 Chilbolton Avenue.

A large detached two-storey home, which neighbours a previous residential development, Vitruvius Court, which has five dwellings.

The application states: “Over recent years, there has been a significant amount of development along Chilbolton Avenue that has led to higher density housing within many of the plots, including the recent development of Vitruvius Court and Keates Court to the east of the road, and King George V Place and Connaught Square apartments to the west.”

Planning permission was previously given for 30 Chilbolton Avenue in 2017 for five properties, but this has not been implemented.

The proposal includes two detached three-bedroom homes and two semi-detached four-bedroom homes, which “have been designed to reflect the traditional character and appearance of many of the properties along Chilbolton Avenue”.

A new access point is also proposed from Chilbolton Avenue to allow a separate access into the site and 32 Chilbolton Avenue.

The application has already been given the backing from some neighbours, with Robert Mott of Vitruvius Court writing to the council in support.

He said: “This is a great looking scheme and a much more aesthetically pleasing proposal than the original planning permission that was granted last time.

“As a neighbour, I also appreciate that this application has taken into account its impact on the neighbouring property losing one house reducing the density from five units to four.”

However, a concern surrounding surface water has been raised by Southern Water which stated that there are no sewers for this water to serve the development. The company has said that alternative means are required, which should “not involve disposal to a public foul sewer”.

Hampshire Highways has also said that it has no objections to the scheme, along with Winchester City Council’s landscape.
