Southampton-based rapper Tyrone has been signed a major record deal with Sony Music.

He will sit under the company’s label Relentless Records and also remain under the management of Ditto MGMT’s Matt Dodds, who once managed city music legend Craig David.

Tyrone's first single as a Sony artist, Do What I Wanna Do, will be released on September 10 and is currently available to pre-order.

It follows recent successes for Tyrone including his summer hit remix of Way Too Long with chart stars Anne-Marie and Nathan Dawe, which assisted the original to chart 38th in the Official Charts.

Tyrone is familiar on the city music scene not only as a solo artist but also as part of the dance music group FooR and rap duo Tyrone and Warbz.

His debut album Welcome To SO as part of Tyrone and Warbz has more than three million streams on Spotify and, as part of FooR, he reached number nine in the Official Dance Charts in 2018 with the album Friends of FooR.

“I’m delighted to have signed with Sony and I’m really looking forward to the opportunities and experiences being part of a major record label will bring - it is a really exciting time,” said Tyrone.

“Although there is still a long way to go, a major record deal is something I have been working tirelessly towards for a long time now.

“I am hoping my story will be one that can show other aspiring musicians that anything is possible with the right commitment, dedication and passion to success and reach your goals.”

To help support and fund his work, Tyrone also created a brand, SO Movement, which includes a record label to release tracks from local up-and-coming artists, merchandise and Litty, a live music event company which provides a safe party environment for young people aged 14 and above.

At the end of last year, he also helped produce and release a compilation album, Sounds of Southampton Vol. 1, which featured Tyrone and Warbz’s single Can’t Relate alongside 24 other young artists and was designed to promote the music scene in Southampton.

It entered the official album charts at number 43 and will be followed by a second volume.
